Free Concert by Branches Band

Free Concert!  Branches Band, a Milwaukee-based Christian band, will be presenting a concert Friday, November 7, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 765 Margaret Street, St. Paul. Branches Band Potluck

There will be a meal for the two members of Branches Band before the concert at 7:00 PM this Friday night.  The invite goes out to all who would like to join them for a pre-performance potluck at the Voigt house.  It is a chance to get to know them and chat with them.  Please bring a dish to pass.  The doors of the parsonage open at 5:30 PM.

Opportunities to Serve Reminder

We are publishing this again for your consideration.  We work together as the body of Christ to give glory to God - in big things and little things.

1)  Coffee Maker - Between Sunday worship and Bible class, we have the opportunity to enjoy some food and fellowship.  While we talk, we wash down the treats with some coffee.  Would you be willing to sign on once a month to make a few pots for this before the service?  The time commitment is about 15-20 minutes while the coffee brews.  Training will be provided. 

2)  Event Planner - It is a blessing to gather on Sunday mornings inside of church, but is also a benefit to do that outside of church.  Would you like to organize one event for the members to get together as well as provide an opportunity to invite others?  An example might be a bowling outing or a baseball game.  If you create a one-time outing, others will come.

Prayer of the Day

Gracious Lord, our refuge and strength, pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people.  Keep them steadfast in your Word, protect and comfort them in all temptations, defend them against all their enemies, and bestow on the Church your saving peace; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 

Area Reformation Service

This coming Sunday we will celebrate the Reformation at St. John at our 9:30 AM worship.  We thank our God for the truth that he restored to the church through his servant, Martin Luther.  It was on October 31, 1517, that he nailed the 95 Theses to the Castle Church door in Wittenberg, Germany.  What a blessing to know that God has saved us by his grace.  That comes to us in Scripture and through faith.

There is also a special area service hosted by St. Croix Lutheran High School.  It begins at 4:00 PM. in their chapel.  The theme is:  "The Reach of the Reformation."  Pastor Birkholz is the guest preacher.  The worship will include different choirs.

Branches Band will be joining us on Friday, November 7th, at 7:00 pm, in our sanctuary. A tree is known by its leaves; but without the roots and main trunk, the leaves would neither bud nor thrive. The leaves identify the tree, but the tree gives life to the leaves. Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches...” Branches Band, a Milwaukee- based music group, uses their love for music to identify the Savior of the world - Jesus! Sunday's Potluck

This Sunday we will be having a potluck after church.  The idea is to enjoy some fellowship while we feast.  Please bring a dish to pass.  Considering the time of the meal, brunch type items might be a good suggestion.  See you there.
