Midweek Advent Worship (November 30)

We have another opportunity to prepare for Jesus' coming this Advent season.  Tomorrow night we have our only Wednesday evening service.  The time is 6:30 PM.

We will meditate on David's words in Psalm 27:1,13,14 with the theme:  Wait for the Lord.

The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?  The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? … I am still confident of this:  I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.  Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Happy Advent!

Auction Update

The totals are in.  The result of Sunday's silent pie auction was $475.  A check with that amount will be sent to the Merrick Food Shelf.

This is one of the ways that we can help the neighbors in our community who are in need as we reflect the love of Christ that is shown to us and then through us.

Thank you to all who brought pies and bought pies.

News from Miss Mercier

The following letter was received from Miss Mercier and shared with the members of St. John Lutheran Church this morning:

Dear Members of St. John Church and School,

After prayerful consideration, I have decided to resign my position as teacher at St. John Lutheran School at the end of the 2016-2017 school year. I wish to take some time to explore other opportunities in my life. I will continue to serve St. John faithfully in my call, through the end of June 2017. I am making this announcement now, so that St. John may move forward with calling a teacher.

I have been blessed to serve at St. John these last few years and am very thankful for all of your prayers and support during my time here. You will be in my thoughts and prayers often. I pray that God continues to bless his ministry here and all over the world.

God’s blessings,
Elaina Mercier

We thank Miss Mercier for her faithful service, wish the Lord’s blessings to her, and offer to help and support her in whatever ways we can in the coming months.

Our Committee on Education has a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday evening and will discuss how to fill the vacancy for Miss Mercier’s position. The plan will likely include extending a divine call to a qualified candidate for a full-time teaching position. The desire of St. John Lutheran Church is to continue supporting Christian education. We will move forward for the coming academic year and continue sharing the Good News of Jesus each day with our students.

We ask the Lord of the Church to guide our planning, so that the educational ministry of St. John Lutheran School may continue into the future if he so desires.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3
