Anticipating Worship (March 10)

Second Sunday in Lent

Worship Focus:
Our Great Deliverer defeats Satan and secures our salvation.

Scripture Readings:
     Deuteronomy 26:5-10
     Psalm 91
     Romans 10:8b-13
     Luke 4:1-13

Sermon:
     Luke 4:1-13
              "Beware of the Devil"

Prayer of the Day:
Lord our strength, the battle of good and evil rages within and around us, and our ancient foe tempts us with his deceits and empty promises. Keep us steadfast in your Word, and when we fall, raise us up again and restore us through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

Lenten Fellowship Opportunity

St. John has reserved an area at Obb’s restaurant, 1347 Burns Avenue in St. Paul, for a group fish fry after church on Good Friday, April 19. The event is open to all singles, families, couples, friends, etc.  The cost for the fish fry is $14.00 per person.  Beverages are available at extra charge. If you do not enjoy fish, you are welcome to order from the regular menu.  Please consider joining with your St. John family for this evening of fellowship together, to close out the Lenten season while we eagerly anticipate Easter morning. Sign-up is necessary as we are limited as to how many can be served. The sign-up sheet is on the table in the narthex.

Household Items Needed!

Household Items Needed: After a successful transition from prison, instructed and confirmed, Daryl is being mentored through our WELS Prison Ministry. He is now able to move from transitional housing and live in his own apartment. You can help by providing some household essentials. A list is provided below. Please, select what you might provide, check it off the list on the narthex table at church, and bring it in no later than March 17. If you have questions, contact Tom Koepsell for more information.
