LWMS Update

LWMS Update - St. John is a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society (LWMS.) All women of the congregation are automatically members and invited to attend the 2 rallies held each year. This month, the spring rally was held in Cambridge, MN and featured one of the 2 missions our LWMS circuit has adopted for the year. We learned about Peridot Lutheran School, part of the Apache mission, which was the first world mission adopted by the WELS in 1893. WELS missionaries were the first to put the Apache language in print for the purpose of sharing the Word. You are invited to see the presentation by teacher Debra Dietrich on YouTube, also linked at www.christcambridge.com  (Presentation begins at 34:10.) Then, use the prayer below to ask the Lord of the Nations to bless our Apache brothers and sisters, our WELS missionaries/teachers on the reservations, and their ministry.

PRAYER:  Lord of the Nations, we praise you for having allowed us a presence among the Apache people for over 130 years, for providing called workers and faithful members who love you and your Word. Please bless their efforts. Raise up leaders among the members who love Jesus and walk with you. Work through your Word and promise to overcome the roadblocks common to the Apache - generational poverty, unresolved anger, nature-based religion, and addiction - tools Satan uses to hold them captive but that your Spirit can break through. Bless those on the reservation with the sweet Water of Life and refresh them with your forgiveness. We ask you to bless Marissa Zaye, our Apache sister who is at MLC, training to minister among her people. Protect her, encourage her, and give her an eagerness to share the hope of Christ. We praise you that Peridot Lutheran has been able to raise almost all the funds needed to send teens to the National Youth Rally for the first time. Fill this experience with your grace and growth. Finally, Lord, in spite of the called worker shortage, mercifully provide the 3 teachers needed there next year. Bless them in the cultural transition. Fill them with an extra measure of wisdom, energy, and love for the Apache people ,so they clearly point to you as the source of Hope. Thank you for our resurrection Hope and the privilege to share it! Thank you for hearing and blessing your people everywhere. Amen.

SCLA Gala Questions Answered!!

The SCLA gala enhances our ability to offer tuition assistance to students and to improve the quality of our academic programs. When you bid on items or donate to the gala, you support the next generation of Christian leaders.
Will you join us April 27?

Your Gala Questions Answered

What do I wear?
No need to go out and get a new ball gown or tuxedo (though you are welcome to). Business casual will do, or get in the spirit of the night and dress as your favorite storybook character.

Does the cost cover the food and drink?
Yes! And you won't be disappointed. Check out the hors d'oeuvres and dinner menu here. There is also an open bar during the silent auction, and a cash/credit card bar during the meal and live auction.

What will I do?
If mingling isn't your thing (there will be plenty of that), enjoy playing games, live entertainment, and cruising the silent auction while you enjoy complimentary drinks and appetizers with fellow SCLA supporters. After dinner is served, Executive Director Brian Shult will give an update and students will share their stories. The night ends with the exciting live auction and Make a Difference portion of the event.

How do I bid on the silent auction items?
Bring your own fully charged smart phone or tablet to make an online donation and place bids during the silent auction. Student helpers can assist if needed!

Can I come alone?
Yes, but you won't feel alone. We'll find the perfect seat for you among SCLA friends. If you have a preference, make a note when you buy tickets.

Can I reserve a whole or partial table for me and my friends?
Yes! Tables seat 10, or if you'd like to sit with a smaller group of friends, make a note when you buy tickets.
